This issue of Projections, a forum for filmmakers to talk about their craft, looks at the international scene. It features articles by Shohei Imamura, one of the major living Japanese directors; Suso Cecchi D'Amico, who wrote scripts for Luchino Visconti; Vittorio Storaro, who photographed The Conformist, Last Tango in Paris and most of Bernardo Bertolucci's other films; Krzysztof Kieslowski, director of Blue, White, and Red; and Dziga Vertov, the great Soviet director. Along the way, it also offers extensive and mesmerizing commentary by the Coen brothers, Leaving Las Vegas's Mike Figgis, screenwriter Robert Towne, Steve Martin, and the wonderful Stanley Donen, director of Funny Face and Singin' in the Rain.
