Title

Monarch Film Studies (1976)
KING VIDOR
by John Baxter

An entry into the Monarch Press Monarch Film Studies series, designed to develop a greater understanding of the motion picture as a creative art and as a form of mass entertainment.

Notes

Arriving in Hollywood in 1915, King Vidor went on to one of the longest and most successful directorial careers in the American cinema. His distinctly personal style of filmmaking produced such major works as The Big Parade, The Crowd, Northwest Passage, Duel in the Sun, The Fountainhead, and Ruby Gentry, and provided successful vehicles for many stars from Lillian Gish, Marion Davies, and John Gilbert to Gary Cooper, Gregory Peck, and Jennifer Jones.

John Baxter's thin auteur study features interviews with Vidor as well as his own analyses of the filmmaker's filmography.
