RAOUL WALSH (1974)
Edinburgh Film Festival
The Edinburgh Film Festival produced a series of monographs during the 1970s, now all more difficult to find. This softcover monograph on director Raoul Walsh was published on the occasion of the 1974 Edinburgh Film Festival and includes writing by Claire Johnston and Paul Willemen among others.
"The aim of this book, and indeed of this retrospective of 50 films, is to use Walsh to clarify these critical issues as well as to help decipher Walsh...Accordingly this book is more than just a collection of readings on Raoul Walsh; topics like narrative structure, Warner Brothers and Women in the Cinema are raised at some length in the following essays because they help illumine Walsh's work and because Walsh helps clarify them as real problems." - Phil Hardy
Jacques Tourneur is celebrated for such films as The Big Trail, High Sierra, and White Heat.
